DC/AFC/Can Ch CORDON BLEU BRIGHT STAR JH
“TEMPE”
In February 1993, in our fifth generation of breeding Irish Setters, there was whelped a very special bitch out of our Am/Can Ch. Scarlet Victory Bright Star, Am/Can CD, JH, VC (“Nike.”). Sired by a dog bred in New York by Linda Acquavilla and living in British Columbia with Valerie and Heidi Gervais, Am/Can Ch. Lyn Erin Midnight Blue. DC/AFC/Can Ch. Cordon Bleu Bright Star, JH (“Tempe”) was the 17th AKC Dual Champion Irish Setter and the second Dual Champion to have earned the title of Amateur Field Champion as well. She finished her Dual Championship two months short of the 25th birthday of her great-great-grandmother Ribbon. It took us 25 years and five generations and we had finally produced a Dual Champion!
To quickly recap her show record: Tempe had Bests in Sweeps under breeders Linda Acquavilla and Shirley Farrington, and BOS in Sweeps under Pat McGarry and Bob Robinson, who also gave her RWB. She finished on the bench at the age of 26 months with back-to-back 4-point California specialty wins from the BBE class, under breeder judges Pat Robinson and Joyce Mumford.
Tempe was very intelligent and confident. Her desire for birds was extreme. Her range wasn’t exceptional, but she was always snappy and hard-working. Her style on point was excellent with tail above the level of her back and great intensity. Her field exploits were pretty spectacular: She completed her Junior Hunter title at the age of 12 months and one week, earning a perfect score of 4 10/10’s for her last qualifying leg. She finished her Field Championship with 2 major wins at the age of 3 1/2 and her Amateur Field Championship 3 months later with another 2 majors. She placed in all pointing breed stakes from California to Connecticut and won or was runner-up for 4 Irish Setter Club of America annual field awards. She was ranked #1 junior field Irish nationally for two consecutive years and was nationally ranked #10 senior field Irish. In March 1997, she competed in the AKC Pointing Breed Birddog Championships in New Jersey. In a 60-minute stake she ran hard and had 9 finds, including a large covey and an honor. At 58 minutes she took steps on her 9th find and was eliminated. Despite this eleventh hour infraction, we were darn proud of her!
